Boldly rethink your wedding

For couples who dare to think big, love to take risks, and go beyond the unexpected, our high touch relationship-centered design services will help you create a wedding that’s both an authentic reflection of you as a couple, and an experience that gives your loved ones a deep sense of belonging.

As creative partners we go beyond designing your wedding solely for the way things look and dream up ways to design it for how it feels, so that it will not only be the best day of your lives, but will wow your guests and make an impact that will last for generations.

Work with me

For a very small number of couples per year I offer high touch bespoke experience design consulting sessions for your wedding. I will work with you to strategize and co-create the intentional moments, rituals, and experiences to help your group gel, foster and deepen personal connections, and ensure everyone feels a deep sense of belonging at your wedding. In addition to the consulting session, you also get a free copy of Designed for Connection and direct access to me for any questions or ideas that come up before the session and for one week after.

1

Vision

You and your partner spend some time connecting privately as a couple to flesh out your unique vision for your wedding by going through the workbook (included) together. Then you fill out a questionnaire giving me some details and desires about your weddings.

2

Design

Together we have a fun, engaging brainstorming session (1-2 hrs) to come up with a breadth of exciting design ideas for your wedding. Starting with how you want your guests to feel, we design the powerful but invisible moments to spark those feelings.

3

Action

And finally, after a few days I will deliver a detailed experience map to help seamlessly integrate the experience design into your wedding day coordination. Plus one week of support after the session for any lingering questions or thoughts.

Be fully present on your wedding day knowing that everyone’s needs and desires are taken care of and the day will flow meaningfully and magically.

The holistic new approach to weddings

When we purposely prioritize how we want others to feel and engage rather than merely entertain, we can magically transform people and relationships.

That’s what Experience Design is for. We start with how you want your guests to feel, and then create moments that guests haven’t experienced before, that they will remember, that will resonate deeply, that will give them goosebumps. Small intentional miracles that foster new connections and deepen old ones.

We’ve been together for many years and attended countless weddings. So when it came time to start planning our own wedding we had a few ideas of what we wanted, based on things we’d liked and those we didn’t. For us, creating a memorable wedding that was uniquely us, was most important. We had ideas of venue and timeline of events, but there was something missing… How do we get our guests to feel the way we want them to? How do we get them to remember our wedding for years to come? And that is where Julie’s expertise came in and filled all those gaps.

Once we started getting into it, we got really excited at the ideas and discussions about what our wedding meant to us. We had a solid foundation for our wedding experience design, but the guidance we received from Julie was priceless. She walked us through the whole wedding experience, listened to our ideas, answered our questions and problem solved some of our experience solutions with us. Going through the design process with Julie got us both really excited about our wedding.

We highly recommend working with Julie, she has great insights and experience with all kinds of weddings (traditional, nontraditional, religious or not). We felt understood while working with her, like she genuinely cared about helping us plan the wedding we couldn’t have even dreamed of. The whole event flowed perfectly, and was such a memorable experience for all. We truly feel this is something anyone planning a wedding should budget into their wedding, for us, the experience was the number one most important aspect of our wedding and we are so grateful we had Julie to guide us! Our wedding was beyond our dreams!

What really matters

Weddings designed for experience can spark real and lasting connections. Here are a few of our favorite moments and experiences designed for past events.

  • At the start of a reception guests were given two tea lights and invited to place them on a large hand-drawn map in the places they are from, and the places they now live. Cloaked in the warm darkness of a just setting sun, guests whispering greetings to new found neighbors as glowing hotspots emerged, illustrating how vast the community brought together that day.

  • At a wedding for an earthy, locavore couple, guests were invited to arrange their own table centerpieces from buckets of farm fresh blooms, each labeled with their meanings. As guests chose which flowers they’d like, they were composing a collection of wishes for the couple. One table’s bouquet told a tale of hope, friendship and strength, while another was about family, courage and love.

  • At an intimate gathering guests received either vintage keys or vintage locks and throughout the evening they had to find their other half and unlock the commonality that got them paired up. It was a wonderful icebreaker to bring new friends together.

  • One bride wanted every guest to feel how important their presence was, so instead of a traditional wedding party, she designated her closest friends as a "welcoming committee" who would personally welcome every guest by name and give them a personalized gift.

  • Instead of traditional seating cards at the reception, guests were personally brought to the table by someone from the welcoming committee and then personally introduced to someone else at their table they may not have met yet.

  • For a couple who wanted to create a feeling of mystery and anticipation, we created a website experience where instead of a traditional save the date, guests were sent a link to a custom designed site where they went through a couple personal questions, and then at the end visitors were shown a brief video from the couple telling them the details of the wedding and a heartfelt request to plan on joining them. Wedding favors were personalized based on their answers.

What People Are Saying

“Julie was instantly a part of what made our wedding so special. She has such an open heart and gentle nature and now I understand how she is able to create such magical moments. She was like a dear friend who naturally felt a part of our lives. I’ve had a small glimpse into her personality, talent and creative style and loved it all. Her ideas, words and images inspired us and we are so grateful to her for everything.”

“I really wanted my guests to have an experience at my wedding that really connected them to the love in their own hearts, to feel like their part in it was just as important as the marriage itself. Julie contributed so many amazing ideas I never would’ve thought of on my own so that everyone left with a renewed sense of being grounded in the love that exists in the world.”
